Peptides are short sequences of amino acids linked by peptide bonds that are similar in structure to proteins, but shorter in length. In cosmetics, peptides are known to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles through a variety of mechanisms, including stimulating collagen synthesis and blocking the transmission of nerve signals to facial muscles. Acetyl Octapeptide-3 and Oat peptides are examples of peptide ingredients used in the Celloxylin products.

As a skin care ingredient, butterbur has demonstrated a remarkable ability to help minimize skin irritation, both soothing and calming the skin while improving overall appearance.
A measurement of how acidic or basic a substance is based on the concentration of hydrogen ions in solution. Pure water has a neutral pH value of 7.0; solutions with a pH less than 7 are considered acidic and those with a pH greater than 7 are considered basic. The pH of skin is slightly acidic, due to the presence of a natural acid mantle that acts as the first line a defense against bacteria and other microorganisms. Skin care products that are not formulated with pH in mind (i.e. harsh soaps and surfactants) can strip skin of the natural acid mantle, disrupting barrier function and leaving it susceptible to infection and inflammation. Apriori Beauty’s products are formulated to be pH correct, to prevent stripping skin of its acid mantle.
pH adjusters are ingredients that are used to adjust the pH of a given product.
A derivative of GABA, phenibut works as a relaxing and anti-anxiety agent. Phenibut is known to relieve tension and improve sleep, while also helping to improve cognitive performance.
Phenoxyethanol is a gentle and effective preservative commonly used in cosmetics formulations to prevent contamination from bacteria and other microorganisms
Phospholipids are a class of lipids that contain a hydrophilic (water loving) head and two hydrophobic (water repelling) tails. This molecular structure causes the phospholipids to arrange into a two-layer sheet when exposed to water, with the head ends facing outward and the tail ends facing inward towards each other. Lipid bilayers make up cellular membranes, and play a major role in cell communication and barrier function. When arranged into vesicles (sac-like structures), lipid bilayers can also form liposomes, which are highly effective for ingredient delivery in skin care formulations. A common phospholipid in living organisms is lecithin.
When considering the aging process and skin, there are two major types of aging to consider, intrinsic and extrinsic aging. Extrinsic aging results when exposure to external factors damages skin, causing premature aging. Numerous factors can negatively affect the skin, the most common of which is sun exposure (extrinsic aging is, therefore, often referred to as photoaging). Other factors include pollution, poor diet, cigarette smoke, stress, and gravity. Exposure results in skin with age spots, blotchy pigmentation, deep wrinkles, and a rough, leathery appearance. Also see intrinsic aging.
Phytochemcials are plant-derived chemical compounds including polyphenols, flavonoids, flavones, isoflavones, catechins, anthocyanidins, isothiocyanates, carotenoids, and allyl sulfides. They are found in fruits, vegetables, beans, grains, and other plants parts. Phytochemicals are not considered essential nutrients, but are frequently recognized for their beneficial properties including enhanced immune function, antioxident production, hormone regulation, and cellular cleansing among others. Thousands of different phytochemicals have been found in plant foods and many more will be discovered. These protective plant compounds are an important component of the emerging study of nutrigenomics, with new research reported every day. Their use (both applied topically and taken internally) can have significant health benefits, especially in reducing the deleterious effects of oxidative stress.
Phytoestrogens are plant derived compounds that behave as estrogen mimics. The most well researched for their nutritional and health benefits are isoflavones and lignans.
